STate of the Leagues:

HAMSTRINGING FANTASY FOOTBALL PLAYERS (2023)543

Updated: Sep 12, 2023

It's finally here the week of the first game of the season. By far my favorite time of the year you've got week 1 of NCAA football complete and the start of the quest to capture the Lombardi Trophy. As the season starts so does the Fantasy Football drafts which brings us to our subject. Which players to avoid so they don't hamstring your championship squad. When I say hamstring it could quite possibly really mean a hamstring. Between injuries and just potential lack of production, they're are a few hot names that could cause you to loose a step in your championship run in your league. So let's begin with the potential top 10 pick in Devante Adams for LV. He is easily a top 5 receiver in the league but if you look at the surrounding cast around him and the shit show of a franchise he plays for. It makes me think twice about picking him with my first or even second pick anywhere on the board really. If you take into account Jimmy G's inability to stay on the field with the 37 yr old back up in Brian Hoyer. All it will take is a stubbed toe from the turf monster and it could be an off game for Adams. I will say it bodes well for Devante that he has last years rushing yards leader in Josh Jacobs to take some attention away from him along with newly signed Jakobi Meyers. All in all he's going to have a hand full of good games but do you really want to spend a premium pick on him. Just think about it. One wild card for this guy is that he gets traded mid-season to a contender. Which could potentially blow up this argument especially if he gets a half way decent quarterback. I'm staying away from it that's just me.

Next is the rookie running back out of Atlanta Bijan Robinson. Getting all the hype he is projected as a top 10 pick. I'm not saying I don't think he's going to have a good season but not a season worth being drafted in the first or second round. It's a crowded backfield with him, Tyler Allgeier, and the swiss army knife in Cordarrelle Patterson. Now I'd say he would be the lead back in this situation but the Falcons really like Allgeier to split carries. They will be the classic Arthur Smith run heavy offense that will have a respectable

o-line. But with the shaky play of Desmond Ridder and lack of weapons, Bijan Robinson may be facing stacked boxes. If Kyle Pitts can be unlocked that will definitely help out but I'm thinking its going to be tough sledding for the Texas Alumni. He will be a productive back this year no doubt but will his production match his hefty draft price. I think not.

On to the last latent strain on your lineup. Mark Andrews will have a down year I hate to say. The Ravens are coming into the year with an embarrassment of riches with their offensive skill position department. There is a huge buzz about the rookie receiver Zay Flowers on how he's completely untouchable and how the Ravens finally got it right with that pick. Between him, a healthy Rashod Bateman, OBJ, and the under utilized Devin Duvernay there will be a lot of mouthes to feed. That's without mentioning the two second year tight ends Isiah Likely and Charlie Kolar. Just receiving options alone I can see a drop in targets for the Pro Bowl tight end. Then you look at the disgruntled running back in J.K Dobbins that will want some attention out of the backfield along with his touches running the ball. I just can't see consistent production coming out of Mark Andrews this year. He's a really good tight end but at the end of the day this is a new league and Todd Monkton is going to be spreading the ball around in the offense. Really wouldn't put any stock in any of the Ravens players besides that Flowers guy.
